President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding negotiations with Russia in Istanbul, scheduled for Thursday, May 15.

Zelenskyy shared his response on social media.

“I just heard President Trump’s statement. Very important words,” he said.

Zelenskyy reiterated his support for Trump’s proposal for a complete and unconditional ceasefire, long enough to lay the groundwork for diplomacy. He assured that Ukraine is ready to ensure silence on its side. The President also recalled his support for Trump’s idea of direct talks with Putin.

“I openly said that I am ready for the meeting. I will be in Türkiye. I hope the Russians won’t avoid this meeting,” Zelenskyy noted.

He expressed hope that President Trump would also visit Türkiye and attend the negotiations.

“Of course, we in Ukraine would all like President Trump to be there with us at this meeting in Türkiye. It’s the right idea. We can change a lot. President Erdoğan can truly host a high-level meeting. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” Zelenskyy concluded.
