The deployment of Western «peacekeeping forces» to what Russia calls «historical Russian territories» is a scenario that «could lead to direct confrontation between NATO and Russia, and even to a prolonged Third World War.»
Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu said this on Thursday, April 24, in an interview with propagandists from the Russian state news agency TASS.
Shoigu, who served as Russia’s defense minister during the full-scale invasion, cynically claimed that Western peacekeepers «would more accurately be described as invaders and occupiers.»
According to him, the «peacekeeping mission» is simply a pretext «to take control over Ukraine and its natural resources.»
In the interview, Shoigu reiterated that «Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression against it or the Republic of Belarus, including with conventional weapons.»
He also warned that Russia was «closely monitoring the military preparations of European countries.»
«In accordance with the National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation, in the event of hostile actions by foreign states that pose a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, our country considers it legitimate to take necessary symmetrical and asymmetrical measures to suppress such actions and prevent their recurrence, ” Shoigu stated.
Russia’s nuclear deterrence, he emphasized, «is aimed against the United States and military coalitions that regard Russia as a potential adversary and possess weapons of mass destruction or significant combat capabilities of multipurpose forces.»
Shoigu also warned that such measures will be applied to states that provide their territory and resources for preparing and launching aggression against Russia.
