The situation in Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, is critical. The city is closed to entry and exit.
Head of the Kupiansk City Military Administration, Andriy Besedin, said this on the Suspilne broadcast.
According to him, the enemy is still present in the city, and a counter-sabotage operation is ongoing. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fully control the situation in Kupiansk.
«Unfortunately, today Kupiansk is a closed territory. The city is completely closed to all services, and the only ones allowed to enter are the military. According to local authorities, there are 1,640 civilians in the Kupiansk community and 680 in the city itself,» Besedin said.
Evacuation, he noted, is extremely difficult. The only current option is to leave Kupiansk on foot.
«There, our services — volunteers, the State Emergency Service, and police — will pick people up and take them to a safer location. Alternatively, civilians can contact the military, and they will definitely provide assistance,» the mayor said.
The situation is dangerous not only because of active combat but also due to deteriorating weather conditions. Critical infrastructure is absent — there is no electricity, water, or gas supply.
