Gas shortage in Ukraine: Expert warns of critical heating period

Problems with heating could worsen as early as the beginning of February. Energy expert Yuriy Korolchuk explained how a warm winter delayed the crisis and what to expect in the event of severe frost.

In Ukraine, heating supply problems will become more acute in early February due to a gas shortage, if freezing temperatures occur and Russian attacks continue.

Korolchuk, an energy expert, said this during a broadcast on Kyiv24.

“The gas problem was postponed because November and December were relatively warm, and we saved a significant amount of gas. The gas shortage was a problem expected in mid-January, but it has shifted to early February. That is when more severe heating supply problems will begin to emerge, if the strikes continue and if the cold is significant,” he said.

Europe is also facing a gas shortage, meaning that only limited volumes of gas could be sourced in emergency situations, the expert said.
