Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv, has warned that Russia will intensify its strikes on Ukraine's western regions this September and October.

The mayor issued the warning in a Facebook post.

He urged residents of Ivano-Frankivsk and other cities not to ignore air raid sirens, pointing to the recent strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region as a stark example. According to the mayor’s forecast, Russia is set to ramp up its aerial assaults on western Ukraine in the coming months.

"We see what is happening in Kyiv and think it's far away. In reality, I predict that September and October will be exceptionally challenging, and the enemy will target the west of our country specifically. I can't reveal everything, but we are preparing for this challenge because, unfortunately, we must bolster our air defenses. What is happening in Kyiv could happen in Ivano-Frankivsk," Martsinkiv said.

Furthermore, the mayor did not rule out that "provocations from the Belarusian side could intensify."

"Especially since there is intelligence [regarding the threat from Belarus — Ed.], and the president has already announced this. Therefore, we have two primary tasks right now. First, to prepare our infrastructure for winter and finish constructing the boiler houses. Second, to assist air defense forces in protecting the city. Although this is not strictly our responsibility, we are deeply concerned about it... As for the coming days, I don't expect any massive barrages. However, we must respond to every air raid alert, as no city in Ukraine is entirely safe," he concluded.
