Russian forces struck a bioenergy thermal power plant in Ivankiv, Kyiv region, overnight on May 29. The attack caused destruction to the facility, which represents a $40 million investment, said Oleksiy Butenko, the founder of the Biogasenergo company.

«Tonight, Russian aggressors attacked and partially destroyed the power plant in Ivankiv, which my company, Biogasenergo, built in 2016,» the statement reads.
According to Butenko, the attack damaged a facility funded by an investment of approximately $40 million.

«For some, it is just an industrial facility. For me, it is a part of my life. One of the largest biofuel power plants in Eastern Europe. A $40 million investment. More than 400 jobs. A partnership with the EBRD,» the Biogasenergo founder noted.

The bioenergy power plant, located in Kyiv region’s Ivankiv district, was commissioned in 2014. The facility has a capacity of 19 MW. The plant also operates under a «feed-in» tariff of 12.39 euro cents per kWh in hryvnia equivalent.

The company intends to restore the damaged plant. As reported by Butenko, the recovery work is planned to begin after evaluating the scale of the destruction.

The Ivankiv bioenergy power plant is one of the largest biomass electricity generation facilities in Ukraine. The project was implemented with the support of international financing, including the participation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
