Russia has increased shelling of Ukraine’s border areas in the Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions, with the bombardments accompanied by attempts by enemy infantry groups to break through.
State Border Guard Service spokesman Andrii Demchenko said this during a nationwide broadcast on the We-Ukraine channel.
According to him, Russian infantry is trying to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory and expand the area under its control. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian border guards repelled such an attempt near Vovchanski Khutory.
The situation in Vovchansk, Kharkiv region, remains tense as Russian forces regularly launch assaults to test Ukrainian defenses, Demchenko said.
Enemy activity has also been recorded in the Krasnopillia, Khotin and Yunakivka communities in the Sumy region, as well as in the direction of the settlement of Sopich.
“Fortunately, the enemy has achieved no significant gains. Ukrainian forces are repelling these attacks using artillery and drones, and Russian forces continue to suffer heavy losses,” Demchenko said.
Meanwhile, shelling of border areas is aimed at complicating logistics for Ukraine’s defense forces.
Demchenko added that the most intense shelling has recently been recorded in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Activity in the Chernihiv region is lower, but the situation there remains tense.
He also said Russian forces retain an advantage in manpower and firepower, keeping activity high along the northern border.
