On Thursday, May 14, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using drones and multiple types of missiles, including ballistic missiles. Kyiv was the main target of the assault, with a drone striking a residential high-rise building.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that rescue operations are ongoing at the site of the attack.

“A rescue operation is currently underway in Kyiv following a Russian drone strike on a nine-story apartment building—the entrance has been completely destroyed. Dozens have been rescued, but one person, unfortunately, was killed. Others may still be trapped under the rubble," the president stated.

Zelenskyy reported damage at 20 separate locations across the capital. Russian missiles and drones hit civilian infrastructure, including residential homes, a school, and a veterinary clinic.

Russian forces also attacked the Kyiv region, struck energy infrastructure in Kremenchuk in the Poltava region, and targeted port facilities and residential areas in Chornomorsk in the Odesa region.

“Since the beginning of yesterday, Russia has launched more than 1,560 drones against our cities and communities. These are clearly not the actions of someone who believes the war is nearing an end. It is important that our partners do not remain silent about this attack and continue supporting the protection of our skies,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, stressing that the PURL program is needed for Ukraine to defend itself against such ballistic missile attacks.
