Russia is preparing new strikes on Ukraine, making protection of the skies from ballistic missiles the state’s top priority. Ukraine expects new aid packages that will include critically important equipment for the energy sector and defense.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address after returning from the Munich Security Conference.
«Several cold days are still ahead, and everyone has seen how Russia exploits this. Please stay safe and heed air raid alerts. We remain in contact with all partners and emphasize that every such threat and risk only reduces the overall chances of ending this war, ” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Ballistic missile defense remains winter priority
Zelenskyy said the risk of missile attacks remains high, with talks in Munich largely focused on securing specific air defense capabilities.
«The main issue is air defense missiles, particularly protection against ballistic threats. This has been the number one priority throughout the winter. We raised it with almost every leader able to provide real assistance, ” he said.
He highlighted talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as particularly important, expressing hope for swift implementation of agreements, noting that air defense is a «daily necessity».
Preparing for possible energy strikes
Zelenskyy indicated Ukraine is preparing for potential renewed attacks on the energy system, with concrete steps on new energy equipment supplies expected next week.
New energy packages: efforts to secure equipment for rapid recovery after strikes.
Infrastructure protection: coordination with partners on strengthening generation and distribution facilities.
«Next week we expect meetings and work focused on new energy packages. This concerns recovery after strikes and the necessary equipment, ” the president concluded.
