Ukraine has suggested to its partners to take the discussion about closed airspace to another level. Ukraine proposes to be provided with additional missile defense systems that can be positioned specifically in the southern direction. That is, to completely close the sky over Ukraine and thus close the sky over bordering countries, such as Romania.

This was announced by Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President, Mykhailo Podolyak, during a telethon on September 8.
"I actually like Romania's position... Look at what they did. Firstly, they initially did not acknowledge it, but rather quickly took it upon themselves to conduct the necessary work to identify the elements of the drone and publicly acknowledge that yes, it was a Russian drone," he says.

Podolyak pointed out that Romania's position raises another important issue for Ukraine. "Because we are proposing to our partners to take the discussion about the closed sky over Ukraine to another level. We are telling them: let's provide us with additional missile defense systems that we can install precisely in the southern direction, including... In this way, we can completely close the sky over Ukraine and, therefore, fully protect the airspace of bordering countries like Romania. They acknowledged this publicly, and then we can openly discuss this initiative with our partners, considering "either-or". Either you deploy missile defense systems and intercept Russian missiles yourselves, or at least make a statement that you will shoot down anything Russian that enters your airspace... Or you support the position that Ukraine needs to be provided with additional Patriot, SAMP/T, IRIS-T, NASAMS systems, etc., so that we can further close the sky and ensure that these Russian missiles and drones are destroyed before they even approach Ukrainian territory, not to mention the territory of neighboring countries with us," the Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office explained.
