The presence of European army units on Ukrainian territory is insufficient unless they are stationed between the conflicting sides. This opinion was expressed by former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, in a comment to the "Trukha" publication.
According to him, European countries will not be able to provide "real" peacekeepers who will stand on the front lines, given its vast length.
"No one will spend that many soldiers, equipment, and money. What they're talking about — let's send some units to be on Ukrainian territory — these are not peacekeepers, it's called a factor of presence," the Ukrainian diplomat says.
Kuleba points out that the arrival of British, German, French, and Dutch troops in Ukraine should be welcomed, but in his opinion, their effectiveness will be minimal.
"We need to be objective — these will not be full-fledged peacekeepers. And secondly, this will not deter Putin; he will strike at places where there will be no peacekeepers," the former minister suggested.
