Putin aims to «pummel» Sumy with artillery: Expert warns of threat
According to military expert Romanenko, Putin has launched an offensive in Sumy region to get as close as possible to the regional center and destroy it.
Russian offensive in Sumy region
Russian forces are striving to advance as close as possible to the city of Sumy to shell it with artillery.
This opinion was expressed by Ihor Romanenko, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military expert, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
In his view, Putin’s main goal is not the creation of a so-called «sanitary zone,» as the dictator has claimed.
«The goal is to advance further toward Sumy, pose threats, and reduce the distance to this regional center so that it can be targeted not only by drones, aviation, and guided aerial bombs but also by a cheaper method of destruction they use — artillery. Various multiple launch rocket systems, barrel artillery, anything,» Romanenko said.
The expert believes that the Russians have the potential for an offensive and are actively pursuing it.
Romanenko recalled that the occupiers considered attacking Sumy region about a year ago, alongside plans for an offensive in Kharkiv region. At that time, the occupiers began their operations, advancing toward Vovchansk and Lyptsi.
As for Sumy region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to delay the occupiers' plans by conducting an unexpected operation in Kursk region.
