The Russians have used a cluster munition on Kharkiv for the first time since autumn 2022
The munition is fragmentation-based, designed against personnel and infantry.
The Russians used a cluster munition again
On July 24, the Russian army struck Kharkiv with a cluster "Iskander" missile. This was the first use of cluster munitions on the city since September 10, 2022.
This information was shared by Head of the Kharkiv Regional Police Department, Volodymyr Tymoshko, on "Suspilne."
It is noted that before September 10, when the enemy was stationed at the Kharkiv ring road, they used cluster munitions of a different type. These were "Uragans," which they launched at Northern Saltivka.
"However, since September 10, this is the first use. The danger of a cluster munition is that it has a very large area of impact. It is fragmentation-based and targeted against personnel and infantry. If it hits a city, especially a city with a population of over a million, it targets the local population. This is a weapon of mass destruction," Tymoshko said.
The Russians used it with the intent to harm the State Emergency Service workers, police officers and emergency medical personnel, who, according to their calculations, were expected to be at the site of the previous strike.
