Kremlin ramps up pressure on Ukraine: Why Putin demands immediate talks

The Kremlin’s latest statement on negotiations with Ukraine is accompanied by explicit threats. The spokesman Dmitry Peskov openly warns that the longer Kyiv delays dialogue, the weaker its position becomes.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, has issued a new statement that amounts to blatant pressure on Ukraine.

Russian state media report this.

Moscow, he said, remains ready for talks—but with a blunt ultimatum: «The dynamics on the front lines show that for those who do not want to negotiate now, tomorrow, and the day after, their positions will be much worse.»

The pronouncement marks yet another ploy to drag Ukraine to the negotiating table on the Kremlin’s terms.

Such declarations aim chiefly to compel Kyiv to relinquish its sovereign territories and enter discussions without preconditions. From Moscow’s perspective, this would allow it to consolidate temporary gains on the battlefield and legitimize them internationally.

However, Ukraine has repeatedly stated it will not make concessions or engage in talks until Russian forces withdraw from Ukrainian territory. Peskov’s rhetoric merely underscores the Kremlin’s unreadiness for genuine peace, revealing instead a reliance on blackmail and coercion to advance its objectives.
