The Head of State commented on the massive Russian strike, stating that only force can stop the enemy. On the night of May 26, Ukraine’s air defense forces and rescuers worked relentlessly in response to an unprecedented Russian attack, the largest in scale to date.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this on Telegram.
“The Russian army used the highest number of drones since the start of the full-scale war — 355 attack drones, most of them "Shaheds". Additionally, there were 9 cruise missiles. Unfortunately, there are injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure,” the Head of State said.
According to him, this attack was the largest of the entire war, with many of the drones being deadly "Shaheds", which cause significant destruction and pose a threat to civilian lives.
“The geography of the strike tonight stretched from Chernihiv to Khmelnytskyi, from Kharkiv to Odesa regions. This is already the third night of combined Russian terror — attack drones and missiles,” the President said.
The attacks targeted multiple regions of the country, demonstrating the systematic nature of Russia’s aggression and its unwillingness to cease fire. The reason for the escalating scale of attacks lies in the Kremlin’s sense of complete impunity and its disregard for the international community.
“Only a sense of complete impunity allows Russia to carry out such strikes and continuously escalate their scale. There is no military logic in this, but there is significant political meaning. Putin is demonstrating how much he despises a world that spends more effort on "dialogue" with him than on applying pressure,” Zelenskyy said.
He said that these strikes are a means of pressure and a demonstration of disrespect for international norms and values, and that halting the aggression is only possible through strength and the unity of all nations that value peace and life.
“Like any criminal, Russia can only be restrained by force. Only through strength — the strength of the U.S., Europe, and all nations that respect life — can we achieve an end to these strikes and true peace. Without a clear and strong stance from world leaders, the war will not stop, and the suffering of Ukrainians will continue,” he added.
The President believes the response to the aggression must be firm: sanctions should be tightened, and trade with Russia must cease.
“In response to the escalation of Russian strikes, sanctions should be intensified. Russia’s disregard for diplomacy and refusal to ceasefire are reasons to block its finances and oil trade. Economic pressure is a tool that will help deprive Russia of the resources to continue the war,” Zelenskyy said.
