Office of the President of Ukraine urges against reacting emotionally or dramatizing sharp remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump on Ukraine, NATO and Washington’s reluctance to engage in military conflicts.
Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said this on 24 Kanal.
Illusion of isolationism
Podolyak said the idea that «this is not our war» is flawed for a country that seeks global dominance. He noted that the modern security architecture requires leading global players to address major risks regardless. Therefore, talk about distancing does not match reality.
He added that Trump’s rhetoric often differs from real actions under pressure.
«I always advise to take Mr Trump’s rhetoric calmly. A year ago, he said NATO was not needed at all and that he could handle any challenges alone. Today we see that this is not the case, ” the adviser said.
He cited the Middle East as an example, where even with Israel’s active role, it is impossible to influence the situation without logistics and support from European countries. No global power can maintain its position without a broad system of alliances.
«Without alliances, nothing can be done one-on-one. This applies to any global country that sees itself as dominant, but it can only remain so with alliances, ” he said.
Thus, practice has already shown the opposite of the emotional statements from the White House: the United States needs alliances, and NATO remains a core pillar of American power.
Russia’s role in drone warfare
Podolyak also urged separating Trump’s political statements from real developments on the battlefield. He noted that in drone warfare there are no longer separate Iranian or Russian solutions, but joint technological efforts by the two countries.
In his view, Russia is effectively involved on Iran’s side, enhancing UAV capabilities and sharing intelligence that could be used for strikes on U.S. and NATO bases in the region.
In this context, Ukraine is actively working with partners who understand the value of its unique wartime experience, particularly in drone technologies. Kyiv aims to strengthen its role through joint production and the use of developed technologies.
