U.S. suspends military aid: Former ambassador names three critical steps

There are three paths for rapid crisis response measures in response to the U.S. blocking the supply of critical weapons to Ukraine.

This was stated by the well-known Ukrainian diplomat, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. from 2015–2019, and Head of the Board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Valeriy Chaly.

«Simply having every Ukrainian try to cope with their stress by „sticking virtual pins in voodoo dolls“ or demonstrating a demarche to partners by summoning the head of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv to the Foreign Ministry will change nothing, ” the diplomat believes.

Thus, he proposes three paths for rapid crisis response measures.

First

It is necessary to secure the supply of Taurus missiles from Germany. According to Chaly, this would «break the pattern.» In the absence of missiles and with weakened air defenses, it is necessary to strike the systems and locations from which they are launched. In turn, Germany and its leadership have a unique opportunity to reclaim continental leadership.

Second

Maximizing contacts with leaders and lobbyists of the production and export of American systems and ammunition. This primarily concerns the company Lockheed Martin.

«A meeting between the President of Ukraine (possibly the Minister of Defense of Ukraine) with the Chairman, President, and CEO James Taiclet is a priority task for Ukrainian diplomacy… I hope our specialists know the lobbyists in this field in the U.S., ” Chaly says.

He also advises meeting with the Japanese and other countries where these weapons are produced under license.

Third

Maximizing the production and use of Ukrainian means for «long-range» strikes on warehouses, launch facilities, and deployment sites of Russian occupation forces’ personnel.

This will demonstrate to Russia that even such a U.S. decision will not be a game changer or create conditions to force Ukraine into capitulation on Putin’s terms.

Chaly particularly urges the Ukrainian authorities not to fuel «anti-Americanism.»
