What happens if Ukraine does not receive EU reparations loan, Zelenskyy explains
Without a reparations loan backed by frozen Russian assets, Ukraine would become vulnerable and president Vladimir Putin would abandon any diplomatic efforts to end the war.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
If Ukraine does not receive reparations financing based on frozen Russian assets held in the European Union, Russia will reject any diplomatic path toward ending the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the remarks while answering journalists’ questions.
He said the lack of such financial support would weaken Ukraine and make it more vulnerable, a situation the Kremlin would be quick to exploit.
“He understands that we would be weaker and more vulnerable. And it is absolutely obvious that he would have no interest in a diplomatic track — no diplomacy, no dialogue,” Zelenskyy said.
The president emphasized that a reparations loan backed by frozen Russian assets is a critical deterrent, warning that without it the Russian leader would see the situation as a chance to keep the war going.
“What will everyone else do?” Zelenskyy added, referring to the potential consequences of such a scenario.
