NATO has chance to prepare for war: Expert says how Russia can be pushed back in development for years

Missiles for Ukraine are not charity — they are an investment in the West’s own security. Destroying Russian factories now would give NATO the precious years it desperately needs to rearm.

Europe is squandering a unique opportunity to protect itself from Russian aggression in the years ahead. Delivering long-range missiles to Ukraine — such as Taurus or an adequate number of Storm Shadow missiles — could dramatically alter the security landscape not only on the front line, but across Europe.

This view was expressed by aviation expert Valerii Romanenko, a senior research fellow at the State Aviation Museum, in an interview with Kyiv24.

He said that if partners supplied Ukraine with enough long-range weapons, the Ukrainian armed forces could dismantle Russia’s military-industrial complex. That would compel Moscow to restart production from zero, buying Europe valuable time to prepare.

Ideal scenario for Europe

According to Romanenko, the West does not yet fully realise the opportunity opening up before it thanks to the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

«For Europe, the ideal scenario would be to give us long-range weapons so that we could simply wipe out Russia’s military industry. Europe would secure substantial time to prepare for a potential Russian invasion — whether through the Baltic region or along other routes, including via Belarus, ” he said.

However, the analyst added that Europeans «for now do not see this as a chance».

Forcing Russia to start from scratch

Romanenko stresses that if Ukraine received Tomahawk-type missiles or mass supplies of Germany’s Taurus missiles, it would be able to knock out key Russian facilities within reach.

That would trigger a collapse in the enemy’s production chains.

«The Russians would then be forced to start from zero — building technological processes around Chinese supplies and Chinese components. In practice, this would mean developing modified versions of new systems with major time delays, ” the expert said.

This scenario would compel the Kremlin to waste years rebuilding its capabilities rather than stockpiling forces for further aggression.
