Russia has been waging war against the West for years, yet it lacks the resolve to directly attack the capitals of NATO member states.
A retired Australian Armed Forces Major General and military expert Mick Ryan shared this view in an interview with Ukraine’s 24 kanal.
«The terrible irony is that Putin and his entire administration repeatedly claim Russia is already at war with NATO. Meanwhile, since the onset of the war, the Alliance has buried its head in the sand, insisting it is not fighting Moscow, ” the expert remarked.
Ryan stresses that, in reality, Russia has been engaged in conflict with the West for years. However, Western nations have been reluctant to openly acknowledge that Moscow is conducting the most extensive subversive and sabotage campaign across Europe since World War II.
«Yet, it’s hard to imagine anything less likely than Russia attacking a European capital, ” he added.
When asked directly whether Russia might attack a NATO country, Ryan responded cautiously.
«Russia is in a difficult economic position, while Europe is significantly wealthier, larger, and more militarily capable. But for some reason, the West—not just Europe, but other countries too—has lost confidence in its ability to counter authoritarian aggression and hybrid warfare. We need to regain confidence in our capacity to defend democracies, just as Ukraine is defending its state. Ukraine has shown us the way, but we haven’t fully embraced it yet, ” the military expert said.
