In Mariupol, during repair works, part of the unique mosaic “Conquerors of Space”, crafted by Mariupol artist Viktor Arnautov, was partially destroyed.

The panel emerged on the "Communications House" in 1964 and marked the city's second mosaic executed in the monumentalism style.

This was reported by the Mariupol City Council on Telegram.

Over a year ago, Russian occupiers initiated dismantling efforts on the structure, which had endured shelling damage, and initially intended to eradicate the mosaic entirely.

Following public outcry, they abandoned that notion, yet amid the repairs, a portion of the artwork was nonetheless demolished.

The Center for the Study of Occupation released photographs corroborating the partial destruction of the mosaic.
