Roof ripped open, floors collapsed: Russian strike batters high-rise, leaving one dead (photos)

Russian forces launched a devastating overnight strike on May 20, hitting a multi-story building in Konotop, Sumy region. The impact triggered a partial collapse spanning three floors. Rescuers recovered a woman’s body from underneath the rubble, and over a dozen people sustained injuries.

Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin confirmed the attack.

The city endured a massive «Shahed» drone assault throughout the night. A series of powerful explosions rocked the area.

Russian forces targeted residential areas, with one drone hitting a high-rise apartment block in the city center. The strike tore through the roof, causing several floors to collapse.

«A rescue operation remains underway at the high-rise, where three floors collapsed following a „Shahed“ drone strike,» the mayor stated.

Attack on Konotop — casualties

Search and rescue teams have been working at the crash site since last night. They recovered the body of a 94-year-old woman from under the rubble. Officials confirmed she lived in the exact section of the building hit by the Russian drone.

«Another 11 people were injured in the strike on Konotop. Most of them are elderly,» reported Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration.

The regional prosecutor’s office said Russian forces carried out a massive strike on Konotop between 1:20 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that 12 drones were used in the attack.

According to the State Emergency Service, eight injuries are currently confirmed. The enemy struck residential homes and the local history museum. In the targeted apartment building, the ceilings and floors from the second to the fourth stories collapsed entirely. Rescuers managed to pull three survivors from the wreckage.
