Russian forces are expanding their UAV units and testing new technologies across the region, Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, told Novyny.LIVE.
According to him, due to the constant threat of drone strikes, residents frequently travel along roads protected by special mesh structures.
«Currently, about 200 kilometers of roads in the Kherson region are covered with mesh tunnels,» he added.
Prokudin also said that the Russian military increases the number of its drone operating units every month and tests new types of unmanned aerial vehicles.
He claims that «certain technologies deployed by the Russian army in the Kherson region are currently not being used even in the hottest sectors of Donbas.»
«Human safari» in Kherson: What we know
Russian occupying forces have been carrying out systematic drone attacks against civilians and civilian vehicles in Kherson, launching UAVs from positions on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River. Local residents and law enforcement agencies describe these targeted attacks as a «human safari,» as hostile FPV drone operators deliberately target peaceful pedestrians, municipal workers, passenger buses, and civilian cars.
The Russians have divided Kherson and the region into makeshift «red zones,» openly boasting about it in their Telegram channels under videos showing attacks on civilians. According to the occupiers, they allegedly maintain full control over everything moving through the designated «red» coastal zone.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating over 30,000 criminal cases regarding Russian war crimes. Among these, 1,650 cases involve drone attacks targeting local residents and civilian infrastructure.
