Anti-aircraft drones vs. «Shaheds»: National Security Council explains what will strengthen air defense

The Western Air Command has announced the creation and preparation of anti-aircraft drone units within its military formations.

Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, said this.

The initiative has also been approved by the National Security and Defense Council. One NSDC representative recalled that the formation of strike UAV companies had previously been a successful move, and the new direction has the potential to replicate that success.

«This is a good step. I remember when we launched the strike UAV companies — it all turned into a very effective solution,» he noted.

According to him, anti-aircraft drones could significantly increase the effectiveness of combat against the Iranian-made «Shahed» kamikaze drones, which Russia is actively using against Ukraine.

«Right now, anti-aircraft drones are what will multiply the effectiveness of countering Shaheds, ” the NSDC representative emphasized.

He also added that Ukraine may soon witness the widespread use of AI-controlled drones: «There are already some early signs, but large-scale deployment will follow soon.»
