“UN Resolution ‘Aggression against Ukraine’ Will be Used in International Trials,” Dmytro Kuleba
Russia, Syria, North Korea, Belarus, and Eritrea were the only countries that voted against the resolution.
Dmytro Kuleba, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, stated that the resolution “Aggression against Ukraine” approved by the UN General Assembly will be used in international trials against Russia.
The Minister reported this on Wednesday, March 2.
“The resolution demands that Russia cease fire and withdraw troops from within Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders. This resolution is not only an important political signal of Russia’s isolation but it will also be used in international trials,” reads the message.
Dmytro Kuleba noted that Russia, Syria, North Korea, Belarus, and Eritrea were the only countries had voted against the resolution.
“That’s what Russian isolation from the world looks like. 141 UN countries have voted for this resolution. It’s a record number of votes for a Ukrainian resolution since 2014. And this is so despite the strict nature of the document. That’s what the anti-war coalition for Ukraine looks like,” underlined the Minister.
During the UN General Assembly voting on the resolution that demands Russia to stop its attack on Ukraine 35 countries abstained from casting their votes, namely China, India, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Cuba, and Central African Republic.
At the same time, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has announced that the UN General Assembly’s message is loud and clear: stop fighting in Ukraine, cease fire, and open the door to dialogue and diplomacy.
“The territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine must be respected in line with the United Nations Charter. We don’t have a moment to lose. The brutal effects of the conflict are plain to see. But, as bad as the situation is for the people in Ukraine right now, it threatens to get much, much worse. The ticking clock is a time bomb,” said Guterres.
He assured that he would continue to do everything in his power to contribute to an immediate cessation of hostilities and urgent negotiations for peace.
Earlier, on March 2, the UN General Assembly approved the resolution on the aggression against Ukraine that condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and demands an immediate withdrawal of the Russian military forces.
